Baco Mileu (May 2015 – 1 November 2025) was a citizen of the Brotherhood of the United Blocks, as well as an orange cat known for his robust personality and active participation in the political and social life of the FBU.
In May 2015, Miha Ella discovered him on the streets and adopted him, transforming him from a stray cat into a pampered, influential, and vocal domestic cat. Within the FBU, Baco became known as a vocal presence in society, meowing whenever someone disagreed with his views.
Baco Mileu is remembered as a courageous, vocal, and controversial leader. Although he was sometimes accused of populism, particularly due to his campaign for the "hunting of pigeons", he remained a symbol of firm opposition and the progressive spirit of the FBU.
Baco Mileu began his political career in the Work for Progress (WFP) party, initially being regarded merely as "Miha Ella's cat". Due to this, part of the party's internal opposition labelled him a "nepo baby" and the founder's puppet.
However, Baco demonstrated that he was an astute strategist. Following the 2022 parliamentary elections, when WFP failed to secure a majority, he was the first to publicly request Miha Ella's resignation as party president.
This was followed by a tense period, dubbed by the press the "Cold Milk War", during which Baco led an intense campaign to alter the leadership and political direction of WFP. In January 2023, his campaign succeeded: Baco Mileu was elected president of the party.
Under his leadership, WFP promoted policies focused on the general welfare of cats, the right to sleep in the sun, and reducing the number of pigeons in urban centres.
However, the 2024 parliamentary elections represented a failure: the party won only one of the nine seats, which brought severe criticism upon him. Nevertheless, the loyalty of the party's members remained robust, and Baco continued to lead the party until his death.
On 30 October 2025, Baco's health suddenly deteriorated, and he was urgently admitted to a clinic. The final diagnosis was devastating: a terminal-stage tumour. Despite receiving medical care, Baco Mileu's heart failed on 1 November 2025.
His death was followed by a national day of mourning. FBU flags were flown at half-mast, while the Șuetă observed a moment of silence in his memory. Numerous citizens placed flowers and stuffed toys in front of the WFP headquarters.
