The Academy of the Balkan Dads (Romanian: Academia Taților Balcanici) was established in 2022 as a result of a series of jokes between Mib Boby and Andrei Mirea concerning their fathers' behaviour. This "academy" brings together all individuals who exhibit Balkan dad-like conduct and aims to popularise the term "Balkan dad" and perpetuate this weighty and honourable legacy. However, its founders particularly emphasise the tradition of making jokes and memes concerning Balkan dads.
What Is a "Balkan Dad"? ¶
It is a phenomenon, or even a state of mind, in which the individual concerned believes that they know everything and nothing at the same time. They are obstinate and unwilling to accept assistance from others, considering that they know best. They also possess a fragile ego and tend to respond negatively to any response received from people surrounding them.

Objectives of the Academy ¶
- Education and knowledge transmission: The Academy aims to educate younger generations concerning the traditions and behaviours specific to Balkan dads, fostering respect for this cultural heritage.
- Promotion of Balkan humour: A fundamental pillar of the Academy's activity is the preservation and perpetuation of the tradition of using humour, jokes, and memes to illustrate the distinctive relationship between Balkan dads and their families.
- Interdisciplinary research: The Academy supports investigation in various fields, from cultural and sociological studies to the exact sciences and modern technologies, integrating the "Balkan dad" perspective into contemporary approaches.
- Organisation of events and conferences: Every year, the Academy organises conferences, symposia, and workshops where the evolution and influence of the "Balkan dad" in society are discussed.
Organisational Structure ¶
The position of President of this "esteemed cultural institution" was unanimously conferred upon Trubadurul due to his multifaceted development, numerous abilities, and talent in handling wire, one of the ancient pursuits of Balkan dads.
The Academy of the Balkan Dads does not have a fixed number of members, but its members may be categorised as Balkan dads (full members), aspiring Balkan dads (corresponding members or candidates), and honorary Balkan dads (honorary members). Membership in this cultural institution is for life, and members are selected from the corresponding members through an interdisciplinary evaluation conducted by a committee to establish the authenticity of their "Balkan dad" behaviour.
Research Institutions ¶
The Academy of the Balkan Dads contains the following institutions:
- Institute for Balkan Dad Research (IBFR) is responsible for studying and documenting the behaviours, customs, and traditions specific to the Balkan dad. The institute conducts ethnographic, sociological, and psychological studies to identify the defining traits of the modern Balkan dad and their influence on society.

- The "I Know Better" Award - This distinction is conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated remarkable abilities in "knowing better", regardless of the situation or context. The award reflects the traditional wisdom of the Balkan dad, who always finds his own solutions, sometimes even defying external expertise. The laureates of this award are those who have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to provide ingenious solutions without assistance, relying on intuition and experience.
- The "Sunday Repair" Award - This award is conferred upon those who have dedicated their weekend mornings to the constant repair and improvement of domestic items, whether necessary or not. This award celebrates the dedication and desire of the Balkan dad to transform any ordinary day into an opportunity for DIY projects.
- The "Unmatched Speech" Trophy - This recognition is conferred upon those who have achieved outstanding performances in the art of extended, moralising narration, with a strong hint of exaggeration but always concluding with useful advice. The awarded speeches are usually those that combine humour with paternal wisdom.
