Moon Lord, also known as the Prince of Darkness, is an evil deity in Ciupitism. He is the same entity as Moon Lord from Terraria, and is considered the dark counterpart of The Sun, with his existence threatening the cosmic balance between light and darkness.
Moon Lord is described in the in-world book Deities of Ciupitism: The Moon Lord, Prince of Darkness, attributed to Papa Lama on 17 March 2024. The book presents him as a figure of veiled darkness and unparalleled malevolence who appears in the annals of Ciupitism amid the celestial dance of gods and goddesses.
According to legend, Moon Lord emerged from the depths of the celestial abyss as a dark counterpart to the radiant Sun. Revered as the Arch-Nemesis of Light, his existence is considered a threat to the delicate balance of the cosmos.
His precise origins are shrouded in mystery and dread. Some scholars speculate that he was once a celestial guardian corrupted by the whispers of the Abyss. Others believe that he is the manifestation of primordial chaos, born from the void between the stars. Another tradition claims that he is an ancient horror, a physical and immortal being who developed in power over the eons and will continue to do so endlessly.
Regardless of his genesis, his name invokes fear and reverence among the faithful of Ciupitism, especially among those devoted to the Sun.
Fanatical devotees of Moon Lord, known as the Lunar Cultists, are sworn to his service and seek to bring about his return to the world. They are said to wear blue robes with golden trim, and to wield arcane rituals and incantations in an attempt to summon the Four Eclipses.
The Lunar Cultists believe that the return of their master will establish his dominion over the world, ushering in a new age of lunar supremacy.
Ancient prophecies foretell a time when the Four Eclipses will take place one after the other. As this happens, the Sun will be blocked for extended periods of time, weakening the barriers between worlds.
The impending doom caused by that event is believed to culminate with Moon Lord's descent into the world in all his terrible glory. It is whispered that if the Lunar Cultists succeed in summoning the Four Eclipses, only by uniting the forces of Light can Moon Lord be vanquished, lest the world be plunged into eternal lunar darkness.
